Rebecca grew up in Crestview, Florida, where she attended North Florida State College and later the University of West Florida focusing her studies in Criminal Justice. While attending the University of West Florida, she worked with Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department.
After graduation, Rebecca started her legal career in Destin, Florida at Miller, Ansley & Stewart, P.A. as a Paralegal. Her work centered on criminal defense with knowledge and skills branching into family law, probate, estate planning, guardianships, and wills & trusts.
Rebecca was an Office Manager and Paralegal at the Stewart Law Firm in Destin, Florida from 2009 through 2013. While at the Stewart Law Firm, she gained extensive knowledge in criminal defense, estate planning, wills, trusts and business law, as well as, training staff and running the daily functions of the firm.
Rebecca moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2014 and started working with the Leon County Clerk of Court serving the public, law enforcement, attorneys, judges and the Clerk. Rebecca’s duties focused on processing all pleadings, warrants and a variety of other incoming documents related to criminal proceedings.
In 2016, Rebecca began working at the Law Office of Marie A. Mattox, P. A. While at the Law Office of Marie A. Mattox, she gained specialized knowledge in Plaintiff representation in civil cases, including employment discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wrongful death, sexual harassment and other related matters.
Rebecca began working at Thompson, Crawford & Smiley, P.A. in 2018. At Thompson, Crawford & Smiley, Rebecca is Thomas Thompson’s Paralegal and she is involved in many areas of the law including, but not limited to, personal injury, contracts, employment discrimination, disability insurance, auto/motorcycle accidents, wrongful death, power of attorney, employment law (businesses), probate, and estate planning. In addition to being Mr. Thompson’s Paralegal, Rebecca assists Mallory Bennett, the Firm's associate attorney.
When she is not busy at Thompson, Crawford & Smiley, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, as well as, being an active member of Destiny Church in Tallahassee, Florida.
Colleen A. Rivers
Paralegal for Scott W. Smiley
Colleen A. Rivers grew up in Maryland. After graduating from Queen Anne’s County High School, she entered the United States Air Force where she trained as an Administrative Specialist. After graduating Technical School from Keesler Air Force Base she was permanently stationed at Langley Air Force Base where she worked within the 1st Security Police Squadron.
Since completion of her term in the military she has worked her way down the East coast by first working at Christopher Newport University and then Virginia Wesleyan College as Assistant to and proctor for Professors in the departments assigned to her for approximately 3 years. After relocating to Chesapeake, Virginia she took the position of Office Manager/Payroll Director for Hydro-Pure Water Treatment Systems where she remained for 4 years until relocating once again to North Carolina. There she was the Office Manager of Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville, NC for the next 6 years before her final relocation to Tallahassee, Florida.
Her career as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal began after arriving in Tallahassee, Florida where she first worked at Anderson, Culliton & Sullivan for Workers Compensation Attorney Sean Culliton for 3 years -- until Mr. Culliton left the firm to begin his own endeavor. It was at that time the she began working for Attorney Scott Snavely where she remained for almost 7 years before accepting a position within her church as the Women’s Ministry Director. After only about 1 year working as the Women’s Ministry Director, she realized her calling was more with law, particularly Family Law and chose to leave her position at the church.
In January 2013, Ms. Rivers began working at Thompson, Crawford & Smiley, P.A., for Attorney Scott W. Smiley as his Paralegal. It is here she has found her niche working with families during some of their most difficult and trying times dealing with such things as: Divorce, Modifications, Alimony, Child Support, Child Custody, Adoption, Name Change, Post-Nups, Pre-Nups, Wills – basically anything Family Law related.
A resident of Tallahassee, Colleen is not only the proud mother of a grown daughter; she is also a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Midtown. The Junior Women’s Club of Midtown is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of young professional women that through volunteer services fulfills needs within our community. Most recently she was involved with the Crawl for a Cause fund raising event that was able to provide over $6,000.00 to the Oasis Center for Women and Girls. She also regularly participates in the Breast Cancer Awareness and Aids Fundraising walk/runs.
