William H. Crawford was born and raised in Sebring, Florida. After graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Billy spent two years as construction manager for Crawford Construction, Inc. in Ft. Pierce. He then entered FSU’s College of Law where he was a member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. Upon graduating in the top 10 percent of the class, Billy accepted an associate position with the Pennington, Wilkinson and Dunlap firm in Tallahassee. While with this firm, he practiced in the issues of commercial and real estate litigation and bankruptcy, representing such clients as Nations Bank of Florida, Transamerica Commercial Finance Corp., the Federal Depository Insurance Corporation as well as other local banks and defending civil rights claims on behalf of Royal American Development. Through this work, Mr. Crawford gained extensive courtroom experience prior to his joining Thompson, Crawford Smiley.
Mr. Crawford currently handles the firm’s commercial litigation, bankruptcy, corporate, family law, and real estate matters in addition to assisting with defense litigation. Clients include Transamerica Commercial Finance Corporation, Advanced Data Systems, Artistic Pools Spas, Communication Connection, and Fortune Homes, Mike’s Moving, Prestige Auto Services, the local Dunkin Donuts franchise and Tri-State Roadway Specialties. Mr. Crawford has also acted as co-counsel on behalf of a number of institutions including First Nationwide Mortgage, First National Bank of Chicago, Ford Consumer Finance, Empire Banking Company, Essex Savings Bank, St. Joe Paper Company, Hartford Insurance and Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Mr. Crawford is a member of the Florida Bar, the Bars for the Northern and Middle District Courts of Florida and the Tallahassee Bar Association. He is a resident of Tallahassee and a former member of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
